Why do sleep aid commercials warn that side effects include drowsiness?

Us...heh

Success!

Yes! It worked! My blog is now mobile. Maybe I'll run into profound and interesting things that can be posted immediately for public consumption. Technology is great by golly.

I'm sorry..but this really made me laugh.

  • Ricky Martin to be Arab Spokesman

  • Somehow he will gyrate his hips so much that Arab stereotypes will just fly out of people's minds! Yes..I think that will work. And what's up with the wearing of the "Jerusalem is Ours" thing... That's only slightly inflammatory, but hey, he's Ricky Martin! "She Bangs" might have some hidden meaning.

    Ricky Martin, emmisary for understanding.

    Thanks Dr. Sean!

The previous pictures are all from the trip to the stables Marie and I took yesterday. A regular customer at Starbucks is a vet there, and he graciously offered to take us and see the horses. We got to see them training on the track and then we went to a few barns to pet and spoil a few. When I used to ride, the horses were well taken care of--but nothing compares to the level of cleanliness and care taken with these horses. Granted, some of them are worth tens of thousands of dollars--but they were all GLEAMING and shiny and sooo gorgeous. I could have spent all day petting them. This morning Sean came in and I thanked him profusely! He said when racing starts in Laurel (in September) we can come and he'll take us down near the track to see the races. Woooooooooo.... So exciting.

Won't you be my friend? Posted by Picasa

    Gorgeous. Posted by Picasa

Apparently horses really love peppermints! I had no idea! Thats me rustling the wrapper and teasing the horse hehe (I didnt learn really any of their names. Besides, race horse names are hard to remember).  Posted by Picasa

I love horses. I love horses SO MUCH. Yesterday, Marie and I got a tour of the racetrack stables here in Laurel.. so amazing to see so many gleaming, gorgeous horses. Sigh...  Posted by Picasa

    The perks keep a comin'

    Wow!

Today was an awesome day at work. Even though were were busy and I was alone on the bar...I was the embodiment of superwoman. My multitasking capabilities on full display for the world to see.

However! The real fantabulousness came from some of my favorite customers. There's this one guy who's a vet at the race track here and he's taking Marie and me to the stables on Saturday for a visit. I'm so excited I could pee myself. Horses!! I miss the smell (if you love horses you understand...) and they're soft muzzles..and how they would nibble at my hair as I'd groom them. They are magnificent creatures.

Then I was offered a free shiatsu massage because he needs to practice before he can offer it as part of his massage line-up. Hellz yeah! I will gladly be a guinea pig.

Finally, I was given sandwiches. Not just any sandwiches--fantastic, wonderful, scrum-diddly-umptions sandwiches given courtesy of a caterer customer (who is sometimes moody, but as long as he brings sandwiches we will continue providing the illicit cup of free coffee).

So yes! Today was quite nice and I am not going to relax for a bit before doing my French class. I'm really glad I decided to take a summer course--Professor Wells is amazing! I've never had so much fun in class....and for 3.5 hours too!

    A bientot, mes amis...

    Back to School

Well tonight was the first day of my summer class. And it was awesome! I only mixed a bit of Portuguese in at first, then I was ok...but I still THOUGHT about Portuguese words a lot. Hrm.. gotta figure out how to compartmentalize each language.

Three hours is still a long time to be in a class room though.... especially with those desks, damn. But, the teacher is great and its only Mondays and Wednesdays! woo...

I have to be at work at 5:30...eeewwwwwww

    Face-Scrunching

I have a fervent hope that my latest purchase of Pro Active will be worthwhile. I have temperamental skin..for about a week, it will be wonderful. Then...BAM.. out of NO WHERE some sneaky little blemish will just mosey on over and take up residence dead center of my forehead.

So, "Face-Scrunching" refers to the mask I have on right now that as it drys is slowing morphing my skin...feels rather interesting actually.

    That's all really. Just face-scrunching.

    Work in the AM..

My Circadian Rhythm Has Two Left Feet

I have gotten myself into a horrible sleep pattern since I've gotten back from Brazil. At first it was the fantastic book I was reading...it kept me up until 4:30 or so every night. Now, however, I just stay up to stay up. I occasionally putter. I listen to music. I stare wistfully at pictures. Sounds like great fun, no?

Oh yes great fun. Until I have to start working again. Which I do. Immediately. In fact, I have to be at work in five hours. It will be the first time I've worked in six weeks. Look out, folks! Your coffee is gonna be movin' in slow motion tomorrow. That's right. I'll probably have to totally relearn the POS (Piece of Shit... I mean, Point of Sale...i.e. Cash Register) layout because I think some yuppie up in Seattle smokes too much of the fun stuff and likes to mess with our heads by changing the order of things every two seconds (there were a lot of prepositions in that last sentence).

So, according to Wikipedia, circadian rhythm is the body's clock. It "regulates" sleeping and eating patterns. Mine I guess is just too white. It doesn't get it. Sigh.. that's ok, maybe one day it'll get its act together. Needs more time in Brazil.

    Next Up: The Four Horsemen

Today has been an insane day! And I got up late, too.

    1) Bomb blast in London (see previous posts).
    2) Evacuation of Florida Keys for hurricane Dennis
    3) 30 mile backups on 95 because a tanker spilled sulfuric acid (!) on the road. They now need to repave.
    4) Rt. 1 closed. Took 15 minutes to get to Starbucks from my house (normally takes 2).
    5) 4 inches of rain expected tonight.

More wackiness to ensue, ladies and gentlemen!
From The Economist online (subscription necessary):

"The same will certainly be true of London. Like all large modern cities it is vulnerable to disruption. Millions of people pour into or through the city every day, through its huge transport network, making it easy to identify places to plant bombs and propagate fear. But that also makes the city adaptable. And there is no doubt that the experience of being attacked is likely to make Londoners more determined to resume their normal lives, not less. That would be true even if London had not previously endured decades of attacks from Irish terrorists, but that history makes resilience an even safer bet.

...the attacks will reinforce the case for pressing on with the long-term task, as defined by Mr Blair: the establishment of a stable democracy in Iraq, peace between Israel and Palestine, and democratic reform elsewhere in the Middle East. If that sounds rather close to Mr Bush's policy, that's because it is. No terrorists can change that. "

    Any questions?

And people doubt the war on terrorism?

    This makes my blood boil.

  • London Bombed In Coordinated Attack
  • Saudade
"...constant feeling of absence, the sadness of something that's missing, the wistful longing for completeness or wholeness and the yearning for presence (as opposed to absence), that is to say, a strong desire to matar saudades (literally, to kill the saudade)."

I'm feeling melancholy, so sue me...

I was watching Discovery Health Channel: Archie the 84 lb baby...and the baby's mother went to Brazil to see a girl there who was thought to have the same rare condition.. Well anyway, just seeing Brazil on TV made me sad.. I miss it so much! Diana said that the country sucks you in, but I had NO idea how true that would be. I miss everything about it..the people, the countryside, even the crazy traffic. My brother got me the Rosetta Stone software and I've been doing some Portuguese lessons. I am determined to go back soon.. I have a standing invitation :) and I'd like to go back with a better command of the language. I learned an amazing amount while I was there, but I'd like to be able to actually conjugate verbs instead of using pigeon Portuguese...

I made a screensaver of pictures from Brazil...Just seeing everyone makes me so sad! They became such a part of my life, that I feel so weird without them. But, I will console myself by knowing that I will do everything I can to see them again soon...I might actually...SAVE...money! wow.. ;)
This is a brief ode to The Economist and how much I love it. Not only is it informative, it's witty! I find myself giggling to myself every paragraph or so--what more can you ask for? Getting the news AND laughing!! *contented sigh*

    It's a Process!

    Ok, so.. I'm learning...

I figured out that I can link the picture I posted and then make it my profile picture..but then my file was too big. And I don't have anything that can resize a pic on my machine, so I sent it to Tech downstairs (i.e. my brother) and he is helping me.. sigh. I will get this figured out! And, I was looking at some other blogs, and people have some neat layouts.. I need to figure out how to do this.

Ok.....this didn't work before, whats going on?  Posted by Picasa
How do I get this picture onto my profile? Posted by Picasa

Rio is so gorgeous is hurts. Posted by Picasa

    Title deprived

I am horrible at coming up with titles for things... I have no idea why! Maybe I used up all my witty titles during IB...I had some great ones then.. But that's ok!

I've been going crazy with the Google software...Sarah's Dad insisted on the fact that downloading Picassa was imperative..and I really like it! I was going to have my brother install PhotoShop for me, and I still might, but I am not savvy enough to use photoshop.... give me redeye remover and I'm happy.

I had a "blog" at xanga, well I still have it...but I liked this because I can add pictures n shizzle.. so we shall see..
